Day 0 and Day 1
Tina and I arrived in Paris late on the last day in November and were met by our lovely friend Jeanne who's apartment will be our home for the next couple of weeks.
Originally our plan was to take our film out on its first expedition around the city the following day but we decided, because of the public nature of our work, it would be better to get a feel for the city following the shocking and tragic events which took place on the 13th November.
Leaving the film and Arctic suits at home we went to the stop points/events that we had planned for that day including the opening of the ArtCOP21 festival at La Gaîté lyrique. We discovered that although there is a heightened state of security and tension Parisians and tourists are continuing to go about their lives, eating, chatting, working, strolling, commuting so we feel that tomorrow we will begin our expedition although we will err on the side of caution. Back at Jeanne and Boris' apartment we connected via Skype with Cenamaximale's second show WestLand in London where our films Fram and Process are playing. We introduced Switching Heads-sound mapping the Arctic to their audience and explained how we are showing the film in Paris. We also gave them as much of an insight as we have at this point into the feeling in the city in general and around COP21.
As planned we began our expedition at the Musée d'histoire naturelle and jardin des plantes where Ackroyd and Harvey have their outdoors installation Radical Action Reaction. We arrived just as they were installing which was a great spectacle but, despite all of the action they spent time chatting with us about their work and ours and then watched the whole of Fram on Tina's back. They invited us back to their opening tomorrow lunchtime.
From there we walked, via the Cathédrale Notre Dame and the Centre Pompidou back to La Gaîté lyrique for Face to Face with Gideon Mendel. Day 2 was such a treat for me as both Ackyord and Harvey and Gideon Mendel are huge inspirations for my work.
